Student voice needs a route into school life

Students increasingly expect to be heard on the issues that shape their learning, wellbeing and future. When leadership is only for a small group, or participation is only consultative, many students never experience what meaningful contribution looks like. Schools need structures that widen participation, keep adult responsibilities clear and help young people turn concerns into thoughtful, constructive action.

A leadership programme that more students can enter, trust and use to make a real contribution.

You'll leave able to

  • Understand student participation, agency and leadership through a Scandinavian educational perspective.
  • Design an inclusive student-leadership programme that reflects the needs and identity of your school community.
  • Develop fair ways to identify, invite and support a diverse range of student contributors.
  • Create leadership pathways linked to wellbeing, sustainability and active citizenship.
  • Use coaching approaches that help students contribute as partners in school improvement.
  • Leave with a practical Student Leadership Blueprint for implementation at your school.

How you'll learn

Every course we run is built on what research says makes professional learning change practice. Here is what that looks like in this one.

Build knowledge

Short inputs on student participation and agency, with Nordic examples of leadership through community, place and real projects.

Set your goal

You bring your own school and community, and build a Student Leadership Blueprint for it across the six days.

Practise the technique

Case work, coaching practice and collaborative design, with peer critique of your blueprint on the final day.

Embed it in practice

An optional online follow-up lets you report back on what you tried at school and refine your next steps.

Evidence & methodology

The course is informed by research on student voice, participation, belonging and democratic education. Scandinavian practice is used as a source of questions and approaches, not as a model to copy wholesale.

Why Stockholm

Most courses run at our base in Vasastan, a few minutes' walk from Odenplan, with cafés and a park close by. We confirm the venue with each group before the course. Arlanda is about 40 minutes away by commuter train or airport coach, with no change needed. Between sessions there is time to walk by the water and reflect. We find people learn better that way.
