Coaching as a Leadership Tool

How can you help people solve problems, build judgement and take greater ownership of their work?

When every decision travels upwards, leaders become bottlenecks and teams lose confidence. This course gives managers practical coaching skills for the everyday conversations that build capability, responsibility and better decision-making across the organisation.

What you’ll be better able to do

  • Judge when a situation calls for coaching and when it calls for advice or direction.
  • Run a short, structured coaching conversation that ends in a clear commitment, based on the GROW coaching model.
  • Listen beyond the first response to find the real issue, based on Carl Rogers' work on empathic, active listening.
  • Help colleagues take ownership of problems and decisions, so fewer issues travel upwards to you.

You leave with a practical coaching structure, a set of questions to replace default advice, and stronger listening skills to help others think more deeply.

What the course draws on

The course draws on cognitive science and Carl Rogers' work on empathic, active listening and explores established coaching structures, such as GROW and OSKAR. Underneath both is the coaching mindset and powerful questions forming the fundamentals for goal-oriented, impactful conversations.
