Experience Nordic outdoor learning, examine the teaching decisions behind it and design an approach for your own learners, curriculum and local environment.

You may already sense what pupils gain when learning moves outdoors: more curiosity, more movement and a real place to investigate. Turning that into regular practice is another matter. It has to connect to the curriculum, work for all learners and feel manageable in the time, weather and conditions you actually have.
This course helps you make those teaching decisions. You will experience the Nordic approach first-hand, then adapt its principles for your own learners, curriculum and local environment.
Bring home an approach that makes outdoor learning purposeful, inclusive and realistic enough to use again.

Every course we run is built on what research says makes professional learning change practice. Here is what that looks like in this one.
Practical outdoor experiences in Stockholm, combined with research and discussion.
You design an idea for your own learners and context.
You put one idea into practice back at school, with peer feedback.
An optional online follow-up to share what happened and refine your approach.
The programme moves through six connected stages: Experience, Understand, Design, Apply, Reflect and Refine. It combines first-hand outdoor learning, research, professional dialogue, practical design work, classroom-based implementation, evidence gathering, peer feedback and an optional live online follow-up.
Outdoor life has a distinctive place within Nordic culture and education. Stockholm gives us a rich environment in which to explore that relationship first-hand. Across the four days, we draw on Nordic traditions and contemporary practice while examining broader ideas about place, experience, learner agency and the relationship between schools and the world around them. Participants then consider those ideas through the lens of their own culture, curriculum, learners and environment. The Nordic perspective gives us a starting point. The important work is deciding what those principles could make possible in your own setting.
Outdoor learning is approached as a practical teaching choice, not a promise of automatic attainment gains. Guidance on weather, safety and accessibility is adapted to the activity, place, conditions and local school requirements.

Facilitation and all course materials, a certificate of attendance, a selection of cultural activities in Stockholm, and fika every day: tea, coffee, something baked and something healthy. Participants bring weather-appropriate clothing, and we send a packing list closer to the course.
Meals, travel and accommodation.
Most courses run at our base in Vasastan, a few minutes' walk from Odenplan, with cafés and a park close by. We confirm the venue with each group before the course. Arlanda is about 40 minutes away by commuter train or airport coach, with no change needed. Between sessions there is time to walk by the water and reflect. We find people learn better that way.
