AI Foundations for Work

How do you make sure nobody in your team is left behind as AI becomes part of everyday work?

AI is already changing how people write, plan, research and solve problems. Yet confidence and understanding vary widely. This practical introduction gives people a shared grounding in what AI is, what it can do and how to begin using it thoughtfully in their own work.

What you’ll be better able to do

By the end of the course, you will be able to use AI more confidently and make sound decisions about when to trust, question or leave its output.

  • Explain, in plain language, what large language models can and cannot do
  • Give AI clear instructions and the context it needs, and improve an unhelpful first response
  • Check AI output before using it
  • Use AI thoughtfully for research, planning, analysis, writing and feedback
  • Turn a useful approach into a repeatable workflow, including simple, reusable AI skills for recurring tasks

Practical judgement about what AI can and cannot do, a way of giving it clear instructions and checking what it produces, and one real task from your own work turned into a repeatable workflow.

For organisations

Your organisation has AI. Is everyone actually able to use it?

Giving people access to AI doesn't mean they know what to do with it.

Some employees will already be finding new ways to work. Others will use it occasionally. Some won't know where to begin.

We can run AI Foundations for Work privately for your organisation, using examples that make sense for the work your people actually do.

Where appropriate, we'll work with the AI tools, policies and guidance you already have in place.

Programme & method+–

You’ll build something too

09:00–10:15 · What are you actually working with?
A large language model, what it is not, why AI gets things wrong, what happens when you send a prompt, and a first chance to experiment.
10:30–12:00 · Getting better results
Prompts, instructions, context, examples and constraints, with practice improving weak outputs.
13:00–14:15 · AI and your actual job
Participants’ real work: research, planning, analysis, writing, meetings, information, repetitive work and their own examples.
14:30–15:30 · Beyond the prompt
Reusable instructions, skills, workflows, and recurring or scheduled tasks.
15:30–16:15 · Build something
Choose a real task, test it, find the problems, improve it and make it reusable.
16:15–16:30 · What happens tomorrow?
Decide what will actually change in the working week.

How you’ll learn

One full live online day followed by a 60-minute live online session 2–3 weeks later. The course is practical throughout and uses examples from participants’ own work.

Evidence & methodology

Practical guided exercises, individual experimentation and work on participants’ own examples. The principles apply across modern generative AI tools, so the aim is to understand how to work with AI rather than to learn the buttons in one product.

Then go and use it

60-minute online follow-up · 2–3 weeks later

The first day gets you started. The useful test is what happens when you are back at work.

Come back with what you have tried. We will look at what worked, what did not, what you have stopped doing and what you have built. We will troubleshoot and improve your workflows. The follow-up is included in the course fee.

Practicalities+–

  • A laptop
  • Reliable internet
  • Access to an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or your employer’s tool
